As part of my COSMOS program, I had the opportunity to visit the Community Observatory in Placerville, California. Opened in 2006, the observatory is a wonderful example of how volunteers and the local community can make astronomy accessible to everyone. Admission is free, and knowledgeable volunteer docents share their passion for the night sky with visitors.

One of the highlights of the observatory is its permanently mounted 17-inch PlaneWave CDK telescope and 14-inch Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, which provide incredible views of celestial objects. The observatory also features the G. Arthur Cort Sky Theater, an outdoor space where visitors can relax and learn about the constellations under the stars. It was inspiring to see how much dedication goes into public astronomy outreach. As someone who enjoys astrophotography and

observing the night sky, I really appreciated learning from experienced volunteers who generously share their time and knowledge. It reminded me that astronomy is not only about scientific discovery but also about bringing people together to experience the beauty of the universe.
